Mind the Accent
Task 2. Fill inВ the table with words from the text below. Mind the rules ofВ reading.
A few years ago, our firm put in a programthat was suggestedby Arianna Campbell of Boomer Consulting, and our people, especially our managers, really latchedon to this, and we called itfocustime. This is just a time thatisset aside. Wedidthree days a week, anywhere froman hour and a half to two hours. The rules are pretty simple. You’re allowed to turnoff your notifications, close your door, put on your headphones, whatever you need to focus, but you didn’t have to takephone calls fromclients. You don’t have to schedule any meetingsduringthattime. You don’t have to take phone calls frompartners, from other employees. You’re free to work on whatever you needattentiononatthat timethat you needuninterruptedactivity. Cal Newport in his book Deep Work talks a lot about the power and the benefitsand the factthat most of usin the knowledge professionneedthisuninterruptedtime. Distractionscan, evenifwe don’t realizethem, cantake a lot away from our focusandattention. The studies show itcantakeup to 20 minutes to getbackintothatconcentratedeffort. So you canimagine how slowly you would work if you had to deal withthoseinterruptionson a regularbasis.
